HARRINGTON, DE

Local riders earned top honors at the Delaware Dirt Track Association's Harrington track in the latest round of Delaware Short Track racing, held on the smooth one-tenth-mile clay oval this past weekend.

With NASCAR in Dover just 20 minutes away, turnout was off, but those who came out saw some great racing. In the 65cc class, newcomer Quay Miller of Newark captured both the-race and feature wins on his Honda.

In Open B competition, Milford, Delaware's Donald Johnson (2, below), riding the Johnson Brother's Honda, took the early lead in the heat race. On lap five, Suzuki-mounted Jeff Webb (4), also of Milford, made a desperation pass to capture the pole for the final.

When the green light flashed to start the main, Johnson again took the early lead. Following Webb in the lead pack were Wilmington, Delaware's Dan Dougherty (55, above) and Harrington's own Harold Schaffer (9). As Schaffer and Dougherty traded places, Webb passed Johnson for the lead and then held on to earn his second win in as many weeks. Dougherty got by Schaffer and held on to round out the top three.

"The track was nice but got a little dry at the end," Webb recounted. "I want to thank Hertrich Toyota and Shawnee Scooters of Milford, Delaware, for their support."

In the Open A class, Milford's Mark Miller piloted the Monster Energy-backed Honda to the win in both the heat and the final.
