LODI, CA

After getting injured earlier in the year, Patrick McNamara (11, below, racing Stewart Barber, 38) made his return to racing a triumphant one, as he bested the best at the Lodi Cycle Bowl.

At the start, McNamara got the holeshot but had to hold off the advances of current AMA District 36 champion Scott Corsetti. Trying every trick in the book, Corsetti could not find a way around the leader. Meanwhile, after a poor start, a hard-charging Mikey Martin was quickly cutting through the pack. Riding his Andrews Brothers/Mayberry Builders/SHY/Alpinestars/Arai/RAB-backed Honda 450, Martin had moved to third by just past the halfway point. A small mistake by CCM-backed Corsetti at the exit of turn four allowed Martin to motor on by on the outside.

At that point, McNamara had managed to create a small cushion over second place. With one lap to go, Martin seemed to find another gear and closed to McNamara's rear wheel, and he was looking for a way around. McNamara would not be denied, though, and he held his line and got his very first Open A main-event win.

In preparation for the upcoming Stockton Mile, Ronnie Knight broke out his XR750 Harley-Davidson for a little shakedown in the Vintage Twins class. Knight got the holeshot and never looked back as he took the win in front of Riddle Racing/Zanotti/Unlimited Motorsports/Legends Steel Shoes' Anthony Mitchell and Ronnie's father, Thomas Knight.

Kyle Montagne has been making his presence known in the Vintage C class. Montagne led a hard-charging Mitch Gallagher and Edward Cullom to take the win.

Montagne came back out in the Open C class to try for another win, but this time he could not find a way around Chris Ryan, who was happy to get the win, over Montagne and Matt Anderson.

Stewart Barber looked like an old-school Pro on his Yamaha Twin 650 in the Vintage A class. Keeping him on his toes were Anthony Mitchell, on his Yamaha TT500, and Ronnie Knight, on his Triumph. Barber had to work his way around early leaders Mitchell and Knight to get the win.

David Valentine of Valentine Heating & Air got a win in the Over 40 C class, ahead of Chris Baker and Merle Emmons.

John Vandelaan bested Bronson Bauman and Jacob Schneider in the 250cc Amateur contest.

And in the 50cc Pee Wee C Shaft Drive class, it was fearless Evan Souza taking the win, over Blake Myers and Damian Ryan.
