Louisiana Cross-Country Series
Round 8: Desoto Motorsport Park

Reed, Breaux Master Mansfield Mud Run

MANSFIELD, LA

More than 100 participants showed up to give it their best shot at round eight of the Louisiana Cross-Country Series at Desoto Motorsport Park in Mansfield, Louisiana. This track is home to two-time World MX Champion Trampas Parker. Rain on Friday morning and misty, cold conditions made this round very tough on the riders and their bikes.

In the XC1 Expert class, Kawasaki jockey Kevin Hutchinson captured his classic holeshot, but Suzuki City's Stephen Reed made his way to the front and cruised to the finish unpressured, with Hutchinson in second and Honda rider Bubba Henry rounding out the top three. Reed locked up the 2009 LACC Series championship and the XC1 class victory with two rounds to go.Ryan Breaux 52 at Desoto Ms Pk 2009 1011

The race action was in the XC2 Expert Lites class, among Honda of Lafayette's Ryan Breaux (52, above), Yamaha rider Clint Woods, and KTM riders Jason Reine and Wesley Burks. Reine showed off his holeshot abilities and then swapped positions back and forth with Breaux the entire race. Breaux came through the scoring tent before the last lap in second, grabbed a clean pair of goggles, and was able to chase down Reine and make the pass. When Reine tried to pass him back, Breaux wheelied through a water hole and unintentionally soaked Reine. Unfortunately, when Reine took off his goggles, he crashed, allowing Breaux to get out of sight. Breaux celebrated a hard-fought class win and a fourth-overall finish. Reine finished second, followed by Burks and Woods, who battled all the way to the checkered flag, with Burks barely edging out Woods for the final podium spot. Although Reine didn't win this race, he was able to lock up the 2009 XC2 Lites championship.

Despite the muddy conditions, everyone seemed to have a good time and was able to bring home a lot of Mansfield mud to add to their landscaping. Riders were also able to bang bars with Parker, who jumped into the race and held his own on a pit bike.
