WASHOUGAL, WA
Oregon's Justin Hill (154, above) and Idaho's Kody Bill were just two of the stellar performers at the AMA Loretta Lynn Area Qualifier held at Washougal Motocross Park. The event, which drew riders from throughout the western United States and Canada, wasn't held in the best of conditions, as rain throughout the Memorial Day Weekend made for some muddy racing. Hill seemed to almost enjoy the mucky track, as the rider from Yoncalla netted three overall wins on the weekend.
Hill netted a pair of overall wins on Sunday, winning all four motos he contested and taking the 250 and 450 B Stock victories. In the 18-rider 450 B class, Hill came from the second wave of riders - gating some 20 seconds back of the 450 A competitors - yet he navigated the course well enough aboard his Suzuki to reel in the entire A-class field en route to the victory. Bill, riding a Kawasaki, was the top performer in the 450 A class, in which he led Washington's Josh Lajiness and the rest of the field en route to the victory.
Moto two saw Californian Dustin Pipes grab a lead he'd hold to the finish, followed by Christopher Rogers, Hill (the top B rider), and Bill. Overall, Bill (3-1) took top honors in the A class, ahead of Rogers (5-2) and Lajiness (2-5), while Hill garnered the B-class win, followed by impressive performances from Honda rider Alyas Wardius, who wasn't far off Hill's pace and also finished well amid the A-rider field in both motos. Yamaha rider Tyler Hansen, who later in the weekend would be the only rider to finish ahead of Hill overall, netted third overall via consistent 4-3 finishes.
Hill would also finish well in the combined 250 A and B contest on Sunday, earning a sweep of his two classes, with Noah McConahy and Wardius splitting second-place finishes in the two motos. Wardius' 2-3 placings earned him his second such finish on the day to complement his earlier Schoolboy victory. Californian Trevor Allred and Lajiness each earned a moto victory in the 250 A class, with Lajiness (1-2) winning overall, followed by Allred (1-2) and Rogers (3-3).
On Monday, Hill netted the overall win in the 450 B Modified class, but things didn't go Hill's way in the 250 B class, which was won by Hansen. Allred rode remarkably well in the messy conditions and picked up the overall 250 A/Pro-Sport victory, ahead of Suzuki-mounted Cody Lee. However, Lee picked up the pace in the 450 A/Pro-Sport class to earn his lone victory of the weekend, finishing ahead of Allred and Bill.
KTM rider Dillon Farmer was a double-class winner, picking up the 65 (7-11) and 85 (9-11) victories.
