If Marc Marquez is to be the 2013 MotoGP World Champion, which is looking more and more inevitable, his run at Motorland Aragon will be looked upon as one of his best. The 20-year-old Spanish rookie survived an early battle with his Repsol Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa, which ultimately led to Pedrosa crashing out. He then had to close a fairly large gap enjoyed by early leader Jorge Lorenzo and after taking the lead Marquez brilliantly held off pressure of his championship rival.
The one thing Marc Marquez’ competitors hung there hopes on coming into Laguna Seca was that the rookie might be perplexed by the unique and hard-to-learn classic American circuit, but no such luck. Marquez handled the circuit and the race brilliantly, patiently following early leader and pole winner Stefan Bradl for 20 laps before making a decisive move outbraking Bradl into the last turn and then methodically pulling away to a 2.298 second margin of victory. Dani Pedrosa was brilliant on a wet Le Mans and turned in a flawless run from sixth on the grid to first in the French Grand Prix on his factory Repsol Honda. Pedrosa showed patience and skill on the wet-to-drying track. He bided his time behind early leader Andrea Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo then methodically moved his way to the front. Pedrosa and “Dovi” gradually separated from the field and for a few laps starting on lap eight the two leaders traded the point before Pedrosa finally made a pass stick, then steadily pulled away to a 4.863 margin of victory.
