AURORA, Ill. (May 2, 2014) – Feld Motor Sports announced today that CBS will air an exclusive season recap show this Sunday, May 4, to relive all the excitement and drama surrounding the 2014 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship. Premiering at 12 Noon ET/9:00 a.m. PT, the recap will air just one day after the final checkered flag of the season waves inside Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium and provide an in-depth look into how Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto became just the second rider in history of the sport to earn a fourth-consecutive 450SX Class title.

The 2014 season began with more hype than ever before as Monster Energy Supercross celebrated its 40th Anniversary and its continued rise as one of the fastest growing motorsports in the world. To commemorate this historic season, the 450SX Class featured a star-studded field of competitors that boasted four former champions, nine former Main Event winners, and a trio of rookies making their anticipated move into the premier division. When the gate dropped in Anaheim, California, just after the New Year, a new face graced the top podium with Red Bull KTM’s Ken Roczen making a statement by capturing his first career win in his very first start as a full-time 450SX Class competitor.

As the season moved forward, visiting the most well known baseball and football stadiums across North America, the action intensified as the championship loomed. Over the course of the first 16 races of the 2014 season, a total of five different riders stood atop the podium as Roczen was joined by the gauntlet of former champions Villopoto, Ryan Dungey, James Stewart, and Chad Reed in the win column. Additionally, 10 different riders earned a spot on the sought-after 450SX Class podium highlighting the emergence of a new group of challengers ready to take on the longstanding stalwarts in the championship and continuing the evolution that many consider to be the changing of the guard.

With the championship picture shaping up to be one of the most captivating in recent memory, the heartbreaking nature of the sport took out some of the championship’s most prominent figures with injuries, including Reed, veterans Justin Brayton, Broc Tickle, and Josh Hill, as well as rookies Eli Tomac and Wil Hahn, and sophomore rider Justin Barcia. While the list of attrition grew, Villopoto continued to surge forward, compiling his most consistent season to date and putting the pressure on championship rivals Dungey, Stewart, and Roczen.

An action-packed season filled with thrilling battles, historic achievements, and the kind of captivating drama that only Monster Energy Supercross can provide led the championship to one of the sport’s most significant nights inside East Rutherford, New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, the site of the 2014 Super Bowl. The inaugural race inside the state-of-the-art stadium ended a 23-year absence for the sport in the New York metro area and world’s best riders were welcomed back with open arms with over 62,000 fans withstanding the scattered rain throughout the day to cheer on these world-class athletes. In the end, Villopoto captured not only his championship-leading sixth win of the season but also wrapped up his fourth consecutive 450SX Class title to join seven-time champion Jeremy McGrath as the only two riders to accomplish such a feat in the sport’s 40-year history.

The 2014 Monster Energy Supercross finale from Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium can be seen live on FOX Sports 1 on Saturday, May 3, beginning at 10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT. The CBS season recap show will follow on Sunday, May 4, at 12 Noon ET/9a.m. PT, looking back at the action from Las Vegas and the rest of the 2014 season.
