Corey Alexander swept the AMA Pro SuperSport races at Road America with a nail-biting victory in the red-flag delayed race over Stefano Mesa, Tomas Puerta and Travis Wyman. The difference between the top four was just 0.148 seconds. The winner was not decided until AMA Pro Racing officials reviewed video of the finish.
Five riders battled for the win for much of the race. In the end it was a drafting battle on the long, uphill Road America front straight and Alexander’s National Guard/Celtic Racing Suzuki had just enough power to nip Mesa, Puerta and Wyman. Jeffrey Tigert was right there in fifth as well making it the most competitive race of the weekend.
The race, scheduled to be the opener Sunday, ran at the end of the day after a massive pileup this morning at the start caused a red flag and postponement. The seven riders who crashed in the original start were said by AMA Pro officials to be responsive and alert at an area hospital.
For Alexander his second win moved him to within six points of SuperSport East leader Mesa. Puerta leads the West division over David Sadowski Jr.
“It was an awesome race,” Alexander said. “I was kind of down to the finish line. Nobody knew where we were going to end up… at least I didn’t.”
