DAYTONA BEACH, FL, MAR. 14 - Y.E.S Yamaha’s Cameron Beaubier backed up his morning practice effort in this afternoon’s session by posting a dominating lap of 1:50.799 - .853 of a second faster than the second-fastest rider in advance of tomorrow’s qualifying for Saturday’s Daytona 200
That rider in second was RoadRace Factory’s Jake Gagne, the Californian making a big gains from the morning session when he was ninth fastest – his 1:51.652 some three seconds quicker than his best from the morning.
Third place this afternoon went to Gagne’s teammate JD Beach, the Kentuckian just a few clicks behind his teammate and a few ahead of fourth-placed Bobby Fong. Fong was fourth in the morning session and fourth in the afternoon. Beach, like his teammate Gagne, made big gains from the morning session when he wasn’t even in the top 10.
Jason DiSalvo also improved, moving from eighth this morning to fifth in the afternoon on the Latus Motors Racing Triumph.
Beaubier’s Yamaha teammate Garrett Gerloff dropped a spot to sixth this afternoon, but shedded 2.3 seconds off his morning lap time.
Jake Zemke bounced back from a morning crash to post the seventh best time. Benny Solis, second this morning, ended up eighth with Jake Lewis and two-time AMA Supersport Champion James Rispoli rounding out the top 10.
GEICO Honda’s Dane Westby crashed in the first session and was transported to Halifax Medical Center. Reportedly, Westby suffered a bruised spleen and he won't be racing in the Daytona 200.
