Ducati announced today that it has signed Chaz Davies and Davide Giugliano to ride its Panigale 1199s in the 2014 and 2015 World Superbike Championship – three days after announcing that it was ending its relationship with Team Alstare, the company that ran its 2013 World Superbike team of Giugliano and Carlos Checa.
Welshman Davies rode for the BMW team this year, finishing fifth in the 2013 World Superbike Championship with three wins and three other podium finishes. Davies, the 2011 World Supersport Champion, was left without a ride when BMW announced earlier in the season that they wouldn’t field a factory team in 2014.
Giugliano rode for the Althea Aprilia team this year and finished sixth in the championship. Although he didn’t win a race, the Italian did have two second-place finishes.
Davies and Giugliano will start testing October 30-31 at Jerez in Spain – the first of three scheduled tests over the winter break.
