Stewart Withdraws From X Games

Shoulder injury sends him home

After qualifying third for tomorrow's Supermoto final at the X Games, James Stewart and company are packing up and heading home. His first attempt at the X Games is over.

Stewart was impressive in his Supermoto debut after recording a best time that was less than a second slower than top-qualifier Ivan Lazzarini; however, the AMA Supercross Champion evidently clipped a concrete barrier with his shoulder on the last lap and has decided to withdraw, saying his shoulder is just too sore to continue.

Latest reports indicate that the injury is not serious. In fact, Stewart didn't even crash in the incident. He reportedly suffered a contusion to his shoulder, and will head home to Florida to assess the injury.

Larry Brooks of the L&M San Manuel Yamaha team expressed disappointment at the team's subsequent withdrawal from the X Games, but also relief that Stewart's injury wasn't more serious.
