Fillmore and Herfoss split from the start, their speeds were identical - Fillmore leading, Herfoss waiting for an opening. The tall Australian found it several laps before he made his move on the ninth lap. Into a last right before the short oval, Herfoss used a lapped rider to edge past Fillmore, who had no defense. Fillmore hung tough for two laps before a slight bobble in the dirt, where Herfoss was stronger, allowed Herfoss to speed to his second win in a row. Fillmore was second and Graves Motorsports Yamaha's Mark Burkhart made up for a bad starting position - he fell in his heat race - to take a gift third when Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull Honda's Casey Anderson suffered a heartbreaking stall while safely in third with less than three laps to go. The Honda finally refired and he finished down a lap in 12th.
Herfoss wasn't as confident about when he'd earn his second win. The first one having taken so long, he didn't want to think about it, "but I knew I was going to have a good chance. I sure didn't want to think about that second win, but really happy to get it."
The win put Herfoss in the points lead by three, 70-67 over Burkhart, after three of six rounds. The pass that put him into the lead, and gave him the win, made the difference in the points.
Factory Aprilia Rip It Energy Fuels' Darryl Atkins won the Supermoto Unlimited race, despite ending the first lap in fifth place. He topped All Access/GP Husqvarna's Micky Dymond, the New Zealander making his pass on the ninth of 10 laps. Rockstar/Hart & Huntington’s Steve Drew ended up third.
"Everyone kind of left the door open there and I passed Steve [Drew] there also and we kind of came into contact," Atkins said, "and I was hoping he wouldn't got down, because I didn't want to knock anybody down. But I got by him there and then I did the same thing on Micky [Dymond] a lap later."
Graves Motorsports Yamaha's Brandon Currie kept his perfect season intact with a flag-to-flag win in the Supermoto Lites race. He'd been fastest in qualifying, but had the slower of the two heat races. Matt Burton's first heat race win was faster by about six seconds. The race wasn't decided on the first lap, but the tone was set. Though Currie wasn't first into turn one, he made up for it by using the inside line into the first right hand turn two to take the lead while the pack "was banging a little bit and it really helped me out."
Currie won the 10-lap race by 2.180 seconds.
Burton took second from Danny Casey (Dirt Digits/Mach 1 Motorsports Honda) on the third lap. That put Burton in pursuit of Currie on a track that didn't suit him. It was the round corners on the pavement section where Burton struggled.
"I'm really just about getting into the corners, squaring it off and going, but I'm getting this down now," the privateer Burton, who gets help from MDK, Sidi, Scott, Tucker-Rocky, and Billy Mallory, said. Casey would slide out in the dirt, re-join the race and finish fifth.
XXX Fuel's Matt Abbott finished a distant third after battling with John Lewis (ASV/Dubach Racing/AXO USA KTM).
