Doug Henry Hospitalized

Will miss both days of Double Header.

Graves Motorsports Yamaha’s Doug Henry was involved in a nasty crash during practice for rounds five and six of the AMA Supermoto Series, held in Copper Mountain, Colorado, today.

Henry was transported to a local hospital in Vail, Colorado, where he was stabilized after suffering a collapsed lung, a cracked pelvis and cracked ribs, those the most serious of his injuries. The hospital was able to stabilize Henry’s lung injury prior to performing MRIs on his other injuries.

Henry went over the bars after coming up short and casing a roller just after a table-top jump in the dirt rhythm section of the Supermoto course. The bike’s rear end was kicked up, causing the bike to nose into the following jump. Henry’s Yamaha landed on top of him as he hit the ground, the incident bringing out the red flags to end the session.

“At this point they are in the process of admitting him,” said Yamaha Factory Racing’s Mike Guerra. “The main problem is that he collapsed a lung. Once they recognized that, and once they knew what was wrong, they put a tube in his side and took the air out of the chest cavity and the lung was able to expand again. So that’s all done and he is stable. He hurt his shoulder, but that is minor, maybe cracked a rib, and he cracked his pelvis. They don’t think that the pelvis will need surgery or anything. They’re more concerned with the lung healing. The outlook right now is that he will be in the hospital here [Vail] until the end of next week. If everything goes well he’ll be released and then he can probably fly home. But the lung obviously has to be healed before he can fly on a plane.”
