Eslick Signed But What Does He Ride?

Danny Eslick has put pen to paper

AMA Daytona SportBike Champion Danny Eslick got a phone call from Erik Buell this morning telling him that the company was closing its doors. The call came just a few days after Eslick had signed a contract with Richie Morris Racing to defend his title on the privateer Buells.

So where does it go from here with today's announcement that Buell will shut down completely.

"It shouldn't have any affect on me," Eslick said. "It may affect what bikes we end up racing, but it shouldn't affect my personal deals at all really. I've just signed a contract a couple of days ago, so either way we should be good to go for 2010."

Since Eslick's deal is with Morrris, the team would be free and clear to ride whatever brand of motorcycles they want. Though in the current economic climate, who knows what will be there for them. Eslick, however, is confident that Buell will remain the team's brand. And Morris does have a three-year contract with his major sponsor - Geico Insurance.

"My deal is directly it Richie and all intentions were to be on Buell again, but I guess all that is up in the air now," Eslick said today from his home. "I don't know anything... I know about as much as anybody else right now. I've had people call me. I got a phone call from Eric Buell first thing this morning to fill me in and since then it's been non-stop. I think we should be just fine. I think there's a real good possibility that we'll be on Buells, but then again I don't really know."
