Only one guy can win the 50 grand – KTM’s Taddy Blazusiak (the Guthrie, Okla., opening GEICO Triple Crown winner) – but ten other guys would be more than happy to ruin it for him!
The $50,000 GEICO Powersports Triple Crown of EnduroCross kicks back into gear this weekend at the penultimate round of the 2009 GEICO AMA EnduroCross, presented by E3 Spark Plugs, slated for Denver’s National Western Complex.
With one hand on the reins of the overall GEICO EnduroCross points lead, and the other no doubt pointing towards that $50,000 bonus opportunity from GEICO – the richest three round event purse in American off-road motorcycle racing – KTM’s Taddy Blazusiak’s riding into Denver with a big-assed bulls-eye on his back!
“What’s most important to the KTM team is the overall EnduroCross championship. And I’m not going to do anything to jeopardize that,” said Blazusiak. “But the $50,000 Triple Crown bonus from GEICO definitely has my attention. So if the opportunity’s there, I’m sure I’ll push a little harder to try and win.”
Opening at Guthrie, Okla., and winding up at the GEICO EnduroCross finals at Las Vegas’ Orleans Arena, this is the third year of the GEICO Powersports Triple Crown of EnduroCross. GEICO Powersports’ Eric Vaden is quick to remind everyone of what can – and did – happen in this thrilling cash money series-within-a-series. In 2007, when David Knight was about to take the 50 large, he had it yanked away from him by a charging Blazusiak. “EnduroCross racing’s electrifying enough. GEICO’s Triple Crown pretty much puts it over the edge,” says Vaden.
Since the GEICO Powersports Triple Crown of EnduroCross’ inception in 2007 no racer has been able to step up and collect the bounty. Blazusiak’s the only rider up for the award this year, and is certainly deserving of it should he win as he’s won three out of the four main events thus far.
The 2009 GEICO Powersports $50,000 Triple Crown of EnduroCross will play out at the following EnduroCross series venues:
Date Venue City
8/15 Lazy E Arena Guthrie, Okla.
10/24 National Western Complex Denver, Colo.
11/21 Orleans Arena Las Vegas, Nev.
