2011 Harley-Davidsons

The Motor Company has three new bikes and a bundled trio of upgrades for 2011.

Harley-Davidson has three new models in its 2011 lineup: the SuperLow, the XR1200X and the Road Glide Ultra. Also new for Harley-Davidson is the PowerPak, which bundles an upgraded Twin Cam 103 engine, ABS, and the H-D Smart Security System on select touring models. The PowerPak will come as a standard feature on the 2011 Road King Classic, Electra Glide Ultra Limited, and Road Glide Ultra models, and will be available as a factory-installed option on the 2011 Street Glide and Road Glide Custom models. The factory-installed PowerPak costs $1995.

The new SuperLow combines revised front-end geometry, new wheels and tires with a reshaped seat and handlebars and targets new riders.

2011 H-D Road Glide Ultra

The new Road Glide Ultra is powered by a Harley's Twin Cam 103 engine and has frame-mounted fairing. It is packed with touring perks, such as the King Tour-Pak luggage carrier, vented lower fairing, anti-lock braking system, Harley-Davidson Smart Security System, cruise control, and a four-speaker 80-watt Harman/Kardon Advanced Audio System.

2011 H-D XR1200X
The new XR1200X was released early and is Harley-Davidson's Sportster performance bike, with adjustable front and rear suspension, floating front-brake rotors, and a high-compression 1200cc Evolution V-Twin engine. It replaces last year's XR1200, but has better brakes, fully adjustable suspension and some cosmetic changes.

Also in the lineup are all of the previous-year Softails except the Cross Bones. The Softail family gets updated hand controls: The trip switch is now on the left-hand control (moved from the speedo area), the odometer has a larger readout with more info (including gear selected and a digital rpm display), and the hazard lights are in a single button on the right-hand side. ABS is now an option for the 2011 Softails and can be bundled with the H-D Smart Security System for $1195.

The 2011 VRSC power-cruisers can also get the new Security Package factory installed, as can any touring bike that doesn't already have the PowerPak. Michelin Scorcher tires and new colors and graphics round out changes to the Night Rod Special and the V-Rod Muscle.

The four Dyna models have new paint choices; the touring models get new seats; and – thanks to customer feedback – the Street Glide and Road Glide Custom exhausts are going back to 2-1-2 style for 2011, giving them a balanced-looking profile.

Four limited-production CVOs (Custom Vehicle Operations) are in the mix, too.

The new CVO Road Glide Ultra features a Road Tech zumo 660 GPS navigation system, upgraded Harman/Kardon Advanced Audio system with Boom! Bagger speakers and an 8GB iPod nano and dock, and a two-up suspended touring seat with dual heat controls.

The CVO Street Glide rolls on a new 19-inch Agitator front wheel, and new ventilated fairing lowers house two of the six speakers that are part of a 100-watt-per-channel audio system that incorporates an 8GB iPod nano with dock.

The CVO Softail Convertible has a new audio system that integrates 3.5-inch speakers and a 20-watt-per-channel amplifier into a redesigned inner fairing. Music is delivered by an 8GB iPod nano stored in a protective pouch. Also new is a 1.25-inch welded mini-ape handlebar, Electronic Throttle Control (ETC), cruise control, keyless ignition and ABS.

The CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide has a new suspended, heated, two-up seat with leather inserts. Dual mufflers feature new chrome billet end caps with black spears, and new mirrors are finished in mirror chrome.

The Boom! kits are available as add-ons to other bikes for $399.95 and fit 2004-and-later XL Sportster, 2010-and-later Dyna Wide Glide, 2000-and-later Softail®, and 1999-and-later Road King® models. Also new in the Harley parts bin are a super-bright LED headlamp/auxiliary lamp and a collection of riding gear that looks like regular black leather but is highly reflective when light hits it.
This makes 32 bikes in the Motor Company's 2011 lineup, and we had the chance to ride the new models and will have more details about them and the PowerPak in an upcoming print edition of Cycle News soon.
