KTM Revamps 2011 2-Stroke Off-Roaders

New frame, bigger tank and 6-speed transmission highlight new XCs.

While many manufactures have given up on two-strokes, KTM continues to develop a2011 KTM 250 XCnd fine-tune its full line of two-stroke off-road bikes, which is plainly evident in their new batch of 2011 off-roaders. For the past few years, many of KTM's two-stroke off-road models have been the company's top-selling machines, and this will undoubtedly continue with the introduction of the completely revamped line of XC KTMs.

The three XC two-stroke models - 150, 250 and 300 - are all pretty much new from the ground up. They all feature KTM's new-generation chromoly central tube frame, new swingarm, PDS WP shock, Excel wheels with zinc/nickel-coated spokes, and modified intake boot that is said to improve airflow between the air filter and carburetor.2011 KTM 300 XC

They also get a new transparent polyethylene large-capacity fuel tank, sidestand and hand guards. The fuel tank holds 3.04 gallons.

The electric-start 250 and 300 share a new cylinder and an updated exhaust control, and a new exhaust pipe. These changes are said to improve torque and overall rideability.

And, perhaps best of all, both bikes now feature six-speed transmissions. Last year they had five-speed trannies.

The kickstart-only 150 gets new jetting and a reinforced cylinder head.

KTM's XC-W line takes on many changes as well, but they don't get the new-generation frame. Like the XCs, the XC-W 200, 250 and 300 get a transparent fuel tank (though they are the same size as last year), new bodywork, hand guards, a new two-component silencer and new jetting specs.2011 KTM 250 XC-W

A six-speed transmission also replaces the former five-speed gearbox in the electric-start 250 and 300 Ws, which also get the same cylinders as the XCs.

KTM's complete line of 2011 off-road models, including MX, should be at the dealers by the end of June.

The MSRP is as follows:

150 XC: $6999

250 XC and XC-W: $7999

300 XC and XC-W: $8099
