Dal Smilie: The Verdict

Former AMA Board Chairman Dal Smilie is indeed in prison, according to Fairfield County Assistant Prosecutor Gregg Marx.

"He is in prison as we speak," Marx said today from his office in Ohio. "He went to jail that afternoon, probably spent Monday night in jail and Tuesday went to prison. What probably confused some people is that the judge awarded community control, or what most people would call probation, on one of the counts."

Smilie is serving eight months in prison for the lesser of the two crimes - receiving stolen property, which is a fifth-degree felony - and will be placed on probation for grand theft, a third-degree felony. He will also pay a $1000 fine.
