There have been blasphemous rumors abound that certain manufacturers have done away with off-road contingency programs for 2010... but that is FALSE. Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, KTM, Yamaha, Husqvarna have all recently announced contingency programs. The announcements may have come a little late, but as American Honda’s Bill Savino explains, “We had to look at everything really close before we just threw something out there.”
Honda announced its 2010 contingency program at Anaheim I Supercross, and announcements from other manufacturers have followed. So who’s offering what? Read on to find out where you can get all the details and how to get paid to race in 2010.
Honda has stretched its contingency to cover 2010, 2009 and 2008 model years. For details go to powersports.honda.com/racing/contingency.aspx
KTM’s contingency has also expanded and is now powered by XTRM Sport Network to make paying out easier and faster. For details go to XTRM.com/KTM
Suzuki also has quite a healthy contingency program with over $2.2 million posted under motocross and like Honda, their current program stretches to cover three years rather than two. Find details on Suzuki’s payouts at www. Suzukicycles.com/racing
Kawasaki is again boasting “The richest contingency program” (despite rumors that privateer champions Bobby Bonds and Paul Whibley bled them dry in the last two years). Find details at www.Kawasaki.com/Racing_Contingency/Landing.aspx
But Kawasaki might have to step aside because Husqvarna is making a big push with its contingency this year, boasting over $11 million in awards. "We look forward to re-establishing Husqvarna as the leader in motocross and off-road racing so we are willing to put our money where our mouth is," said Marketing & Racing Chief Scot Harden. “Think of it as the Husqvarna Bailout Program. $406,905 in the GNCC, $308,765 in WORCS, $132,375 in AMA National Enduro, and $142,125 in AMA National Hare and Hound contingency alone." Last but not least, Yamaha has a contingency program as well extending to Supercross, motocross, off-road, supermoto and road racing. For details on Yamaha’s payouts go to www.Yamaha-Motor.com/sport and click on “Race Contingency.”
