INDIANAPOLIS, IN, SEPT. 13 - For the second successive race, first-year road racer Jacob Gagne proved that he's a quick study, the Californian topping Hayden Gillim by just .204 of a second in the Red Bull AMA Rookies Cup at Indianapolis Indiana.

At the last round in Road Atlanta, Gagne took his debut win in the class, the ex-motocrosser showing that he was beginning to get a grasp on this road racing thing as he held off Gillim at that race as well.

This time, Gagne survived a near highside to top Gillim, the Owensboro, Kentucky resident and cousin of MotoGP start Nicky Hayden suffering from a bad cold and feeling the effects of the ailment at the end of the race.

Third place went to Austin Dehaven in his best finish of the season. Dehaven ended up some 29 seconds behind the battle for the lead and just over a second ahead of fourth-place finisher Tomas Puerta. Jacob Morman rounded out the top five finishers.

Tomorrow the best of the AMA Red Bull Rookies will face off against the best from the European version of the class.
