ELKHART LAKE, WI, JUNE 6: RMR Bruce Rossmeyer Daytona Racing's Danny Eslick defeated Jake Holden in a battle of teammates to win the delayed inaugural Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson XR1200 race at the end of the day at Road America. The first ever race for the nearly identical XR1200's had begun 4 ½ hours earlier, but was red-flagged, first for an oil slick laid down when an improperly safety wired  oil filter came loose on the third lap, then again after an incident just off the re-start that sent James Gang/Hoban Bros. Racing's Paul James to the hospital. James got pinched in between two others off the start and fell hard to his left. He was able to get to his feet, but needed medical treatment at a local hospital for minor injuries and a concussion. He was able to return to the track and watched the final from his pit box. When the race began, after 4:30 p.m., it was the teammates making a show of it. Eslick led most of the time, but Holden was always in his shadow, and vice versa. On the final lap Holden led Eslick, but the Oklahoman, who'd just finished seventh in the Daytona SportBike race quickly went to the front.Holden took a look out of turn five on the run up the hill, but held back. Then came another feint into looping right hand Carousel, again with no success. The pass that stuck came when Holden slid both wheels inside of Eslick into the chicane that precedes the run to Canada Corner. Holden held his ground into and out of Canada Corner and into the final sequence.Eslick sat back through turn 13, but as they turned right and headed up the hill for the run to the line Eslick powered by to win by .054 secs. Eslick was delayed getting to the winner's circle after parking his bike on the outside of turn six.Eric Stump finished 14.5 secs. back in third and a mere .024 secs. in front of Kyle Wyman (Bruce Rossmeyer Daytona Racing). Kyle's brother, Travis, was another four secs. back on the Harv's Harley-Davidson Racing XR1200.
