SPEEDWAY, IN, AUG 18 - The Vance & Hines XR1200 series has been extended for two more years but now with a new name. The AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series gives the brand and the aftermarket company the option of using different motorcycles from within the Harley-Davidson family, an important consideration since the XR1200 will no longer be marketed in the U.S. But with production continuing for sales outside the U.S., and plenty of XR1200s available, it's unlikely the series will change models in the near term.

The announcement was made at Indianapolis Motor Speedway where the XRs race for their biggest purse of the year. The only event on the XR1200 calendar with two races, the Indy races have an expanded $50,000 purse as well as the bonus points earned as part of the five-race XR Showdown. The XR Showdown has a points fund totaling $60,000.

In a news release Vance & Hines' Terry Vance said, "We are absolutely thrilled to be making this announcement at Indy, in front of the world's racing audience at the most historic racing circuit in the world, showcasing and promoting Harley-Davidson, the most iconic American brand in motorcycling." Vance & Hines Racing is headquartered in nearby Brownsburg, Indiana. "The fans have responded with tons of enthusiasm for the Harleys, and we are committed to its continued growth, further expanding the grids and raising the level of exposure for the class."
