AMA Superbike Champion Josh Herrin continued to make improvements with his Caterham Moto2 team, finishing 12th best on the final day of pre-season testing in Valencia, Spain and ending up 18th overall from the three days.

Still trying to get a feel for the new bike, Herrin initially focused on the bike’s set up and ultimately was able to continue to improve his times and meet his personal goal of getting into the 1:36s.

“Today we made a lot of changes to the position I am on the bike as well as some clutch settings,” Herrin said in a team release. “I was able to achieve my goal which was to get into the 1:36s.”

Herrin showed steady improvements throughout the week, starting with a 1:38.351 on day one, dropping down to 1:37.400 on day two and getting his best time of the week on day three with a 1:36.566. Today’s time was 1.264 seconds down on today’s leader Maverick Vinales and 1.411 off the quickest time of the week set by Mark VDS’ Esteve Rabat. So for combined times of the week Herrin finished 18th. His Caterham teammate Johann Zarco ended up 13th with a 1:36.222.

Testing resumes next week in Jerez, giving Herrin more time on the bike to continue to improve. Herrin looks forward to Jerez because he has already had time on the bike there at the end of the year official test last November.

“I am excited to go to Jerez because we have already tested there,” Herrin said. “So we will be able to focus more on bike set up and lap times.”
