MONTEREY, CA, JULY 13 – Monster Energy Graves Yamaha’s Josh Hayes added another AMA Pro Superbike win to his resume today at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, finishing 3.505 seconds ahead of his teammate Cameron Beaubier in a shortened red-flagged race. Joining the boys in blue on the podium was Yoshimura Suzuki’s Roger Hayden.

If Hayes is in good form, there’s one thing you can’t do – let the three-time AMA Superbike Champion get in front and knock down laps and build himself a nice cushion. And unfortunately for Beaubier, not getting a great start from pole position meant being the caboose of the lead four – Hayes, Martin Cardenas, and Hayden. The rookie from Northern California eventually got passed the pair of Yosh bikes, taking third from Hayden and moving into second ahead of Cardenas, but it was too late. Hayes had set the pace and Beaubier was not able to chip much off the over three-second gap Hayes had accumulated before the red flag came out with three laps to go.

A few laps later, Hayden passed his teammate Cardenas and was closing in on Beaubier towards the end of the race, but it was also too little too late, especially with the shortened race.

Cardenas settled in to finish fourth. Behind the Yoshimura Suzuki rider was KTM HMC Racing’s Chris Fillmore and in fifth was ADR Motorsports David Anthony.

Team Amsoil Hero’s Cory West and Bernat Martinez on the Proto-Tech Spain Yamaha battled for seventh, the pair trading positions for much of the race. With under 10 laps to go, West took seventh and Martinez eventually dropped back to ride in a lonely eighth.

Rounding out the top 10 was the third man on the Yoshimura Suzuki, Chris Clark in ninth and privateer Sebastiao Ferreira in 10th.
