In a stunning development, with just two rounds remaining in the AMA Grand National season, series contender Henry Wiles has been released by the Lloyd Brothers Motorsports team.

In a statement on his Facebook page Wiles said:

“Earlier today, I was informed by Lloyd Brothers Racing that they have decided to go in a different direction and will no longer need my services. While I am disappointed, I understand their reasons. It has been an honor to race for them (twice) and help develop their Aprilia and Ducati dirt trackers. We have made great strides and I have learned a lot during the past 2 years. I also want to thank Brent Armbruster for all of the effort and long hours he spent on my GNC and 450 program this season. Winning Peoria for the 9th straight time is something we will always share. To my fans and sponsors, thank you for your continued support. We all know that when one door closes, others will open. I will have an announcement about the last 2 races of the 2013 season soon and will be working diligently to put together a winning team for 2014.”

Calls to team principal David Lloyd and Wiles have not yet been returned.

What makes the departure of Wiles even more of a head scratcher is that he is still in the hunt for the 2013 AMA Grand National Championship title with just two rounds (the Santa Rosa Mile and the Pomona Half-Mile) remaining. Wiles is currently ranked fifth in the standings, 25 points out of the lead.

It is known that Wiles was not happy when Lloyd Brothers picked up former champ Jake Johnson last month after Johnson left Zanotti Racing. Wiles stated that he felt the addition of Johnson would make things “chaotic” with the team.

Wiles has finished ahead of Johnson in all four races since Johnson has come on board with Lloyd Brothers.

Last month Wiles won the Peoria TT for a record ninth straight time, breaking the old mark of eight consecutive wins by Chris Carr. Wiles also earned podium finishes this season at Stockton and Colonial Downs.
