After seeing his hope of winning every GNCC round vanquished at round two (where he placed second), Team KTM's Shane Watts won that series' third round, which doubled as the second round of the AMA National Championship Hare Scrambles Series. The event took place yesterday Morganton, North Carolina, and Watts came out on top, putting him in the lead in both series' pionts standings. Finishing second was Suzuki rider Jim Jarrett, with Team Green Kawasaki's Chuck Woodford rounding out the top three. Defending Hare Scrambles champ Paul Edmondson was fourth on another Team Green Kawasaki, and former GNCC champ Fred Andrews completed the top five on yet another.
