Portuguese road racer Luis Carreira was killed today in a single-bike crash during qualifying for Saturday's Macau Grand Prix.

The 35-year-old racer crashed at Fisherman's Bend at the Guia circuit and was transported to a local hospital where he died 20 minutes later.

The session was canceled after Carreira's accident.

"The Macau Grand Prix Committee has contacted the family and the members of the team, and the Committee expresses its sincere condolences, " said a statement from the Macau Grand Prix committee.

Carreira has ridden in the Isle of Man TT since 2009 with his highest finish of a 13th in the 2001 Superstock race.
