Sequatchie, Tennessee (August 17, 2014) – Beta USA’s Cody Webb won all three preliminary races at this weekend’s Tennessee Knockout, and then outran FMF/KTM’s Taylor Robert in the five-lap final to score his second-straight win at the fourth running of the “hard enduro” in Sequatchie, Tennessee.
A heavy rain moved in over the Trials Training Center at midday, turning the popular motorcycle vacation resort and training facility into a muddy mess for the second knockout round and the final. However, Webb put his trials background to good use on the slippery rocks and finished the preliminary three-mile Hot Lap an amazing 17 seconds faster than Robert, which established Webb as the rider to beat from the get-go.
In the final, which was cut down from 10 laps to five due to the conditions, Webb got the jump off the start over teammate Max Gerston, Robert, KTM support rider Grant Baylor, and KR4’s Nick Davis.
Once in the lead, Webb rode a clean and fast race and quickly outdistanced the field, while Robert separated himself from the rest of the pack to hold down a safe second. Meanwhile, Baylor, Gerston and RPM KTM’s Bobby Prochnau battled over third, with Baylor getting the edge at the waterfall section on the final lap.
At the finish, Webb took the checkered flag by a comfortable margin over Robert, with Baylor, Prochnau and Gerston rounding out the top five in that order.
“I just used my trials technique and I was able to stay on top of the rocks and stay out of trouble,” said Webb. “I grew up riding trials at this place and maybe its an advantage for me, because I know where the slick stuff is going to be, but I put in a lot of hard work for this and It feels really good to win here.”
