Jared Mees claimed his second career gold medal in the X Games, his latest success coming at the X Games Minneapolis 2018 on the ultra short track held inside the U.S. Bank Stadium, July 22. Mees came from behind in the six-rider Harley-Davidson Flat Track main event to nab his second X Games gold in three attempts.

Mees cruised to victory in the quarter- and semi-final races but found himself trailing the other semi-final race winner Jeffery Carver Jr. early in the 20-lap main event. It wasn’t until the fifth lap when Carver bobbled that Mees was able to put his Indian Scout FTR750 into the lead.
Briar Bauman followed Mees into second, as did Sammy Halbert into third and Jake Johnson into fourth.
From this point on, Mees steadily pulled away from the pack, while Bauman, Halbert and Johnson fought over the silver and bronze medals.

As Mees took the checkered flag for the win in what ended up being four-minute race, and with the checkered flag in sight, Halbert tried forcing his way past Bauman on the inside but slid out and went down. Halbert picked up his bike right away, but on the super-tight track the rest of the field quickly passed him.
Bauman held on for second place, followed by Johnson, Carver, Kenny Coolbeth and Halbert, who crossed the finish line 7.3 seconds behind the winner.
“This kind of indoor short track is what I grew up on,” said Mees. “My bike was running flawless, I felt really good, and it is awesome to get a gold medal today. This is such a unique race and it is a great honor to keep getting invited back.”
