MotoGP Race – 30 laps, 110.13 km
Marc Marquez made it nine out of nine at the ninth round of the 2018 season in today’s German GP – biding his time then pouncing on early leader Jorge Lorenzo’s red Ducati to power away for a ninth successive win at the tight Sachsenring circuit.

It was achieved from his ninth successive pole position at the track, and with the assurance of a man on track for a fifth premier-class title in six years, as he extends his title lead again before the summer break.
But it was a great day also for second-placed Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha), taking his best result of the season after a race “when I never made any mistakes”.
Factory Ducati rider Lorenzo led away and for the first 12 laps, until Marquez got through. After dropping behind Rossi as well after half distance, his gamble on a soft front Michelin played him foul (he was the only rider to use it).
Lorenzo continued to lose places to the end.
The next beneficiary was independent Alma Pramac Ducati rider Danilo Petrucci, who took over third with five laps to go. But the Italian’s hope for a second podium of the season were dashed by Maverick Vinales, who as so often was getting faster and faster towards the end of the race.
Vinales took third with two laps to go, to make it two Movistar Yamahas on the podium.
Alvaro Bautista (Angel Nieto Ducati) also got ahead of the fading Lorenzo for fifth; while Andrea Dovizioso on the second factory Ducati had also fallen victim to the Spaniard, dropping out of touch in an eventually lonely seventh
Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), who announced his year-end retirement at the start of the weekend, was eighth, regaining the position from the off-form Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha); while a lone Bradley Smith (Red Bull KTM) was tenth.
The rest of the points went to Hafizh Syahrin (Monster Yamaha), who regained eleventh from Andrea Iannone’s Suzuki; Tito Rabat (Reale Avintia Ducati), Jack Miller (Alma Pramac Ducati) and Scott Redding (Aprilia).
Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) crashed out of the front group after nine laps; his team-mate Takaaki Nakagami was another to fall; while Alex Rins (Suzuki) and Pol Espargaro (KTM) crashed out on the first lap. The elder Espargaro, Aleix, did not start, after a heavy crash from his Aprilia in morning warm-up.
Marquez goes on holiday with a handsome championship lead, 165 points to Rossi’s 119. Vinales (109) is third, ahead of Dovizioso and Zarco (both 88).
