Local Powersports Dealership Builds Shrine for Local Racing Hero
This is a press release from Family PowerSports Lubbock…
Lubbock, TX (June 28th, 2018) – Local powersports dealership, Family PowerSports Lubbock, will be unveiling a shrine built in honor of Lubbock’s very own—racing legend Bubba Shobert—on June 28th, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Product of Lubbock, Texas, Bubba Shobert, the three-time AMA Grand National dirt-track champion (1985-1987) and AMA Superbike champion in 1988 will have his Honda RS 750 race bike (1 of 3 on the planet) as a piece of the shrine.
Brad Lackey, 500cc MX World Champion and the only American to ever win a 500cc World Championship, had high praise for Bubba: “I think looking at the results is the best way to talk about the most accomplished racer to come out of the Lone Star state. There is a very small list of riders that have won the AMA Grand National Championship 3 or more times back to back. This list consists of the best of the best! Resweber, Parker, Carr, Springer and Bubba! Not even legends like the Roberts have three in a row. And the defining fact that puts Bubba on the very top of the list is that no other rider has had Bubba’s success as a dirt track racer and winning a Superbike Championship, making it four championships in a row. Bubba’s a proud Texan and one of the nicest racers I know, and I am proud to be his friend. Congratulations Bubba!”
Food and drinks will be provided, and Bubba will be in attendance to sign autographs.
Born Don Wayne Shobert in Lubbock, Texas, on January 29, 1962, he began riding at the age of 6 on a Briggs and Stratton minibike. He ran his first race on concrete indoor track in Lubbock when he was 8 years old. His father took him to the AMA Grand National races at the Houston Astrodome in the early 1970s and the young Shobert knew right then and there what he wanted to do with his life. Three Grand National dirt-track championships and an AMA Superbike championship later, Bubba was inducted to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1998.
