2018 High Point 250cc National MX Results: Just when it seemed two-time champ Jeremy Martin was catching fire, that fire got extinguished; at least for now. Monster Energy/Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha’s Aaron Plessinger has leapt back up to the top of the points standings after round four of the Lucas Oil/AMA 250cc Pro Motocross Championships at High Point, and GEICO Honda’s Martin has some work to do to reel his former teammate back in.
Plessinger’s teammate Justin Cooper got the holeshot in moto one over Plessinger, AutoTrader/JGR Suzuki’s lone remaining 250cc pilot Enzo Lopes, and Jeremy Martin. Plessinger went by his teammate immediately through the rollers, leaving Cooper fighting off Lopes for much of the opening lap. Lopes eventually dropped down the leaderboard.

Plessinger stayed steady out front while Jeremy Martin worked on Cooper for second. It took until past the halfway point before Jeremy Martin finally found his way by, and by then it was too late to reel Plessinger back in. Plessinger took the win over Jeremy Martin, Cooper, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Austin Forkner, TLD/Red Bull KTM’s Jordon Smith, Forkner’s teammate Joey Savaty, Jeremy Martin’s teammate RJ Hampshire, Plessinger’s teammate Dylan Ferrandis (in his first race back from injury), Smith’s teammate Shane McElrath, and Hampshire’s teammate Chase Sexton.

Cooper got the start again in moto two over Jeremy Martin, Forkner, Sexton and Plessinger, but this time Martin didn’t take his time to get by Cooper, taking the lead right away. Sexton dropped out of the moto after five laps with a mechanical issue of some sort.
Plessinger had his work cut out for him and it took him until 8 laps into the 17-lap race to pass Forkner for second, and Jeremy Martin was gone.
However, within a lap of Plessinger taking over the second spot, Jeremy Martin suffered mechanical gremlins, too, when his motorcycle quit at the top of the start hill, ending his moto.
Plessinger inherited the lead and went on to win the moto over Forkner, Ferrandis, Cooper, McElrath’s teammate Alex Martin, McElrath, Hampshire and the rest of the field.

Plessinger’s 1-1 score, combined with Jeremy Martin’s moto-two DNF, gave Plessinger the overall and a 20-point lead over Martin with 8 rounds left to run.
Forkner ended the day second overall with a 4-2 and Cooper was third with a 3-4.
The series heads to Muddy Creek Raceway in Blountville, Tennessee, this coming Saturday.
