2018 Daytona 450cc Supercross Results: Motoconcepts/SmarTop Honda’s Justin Brayton has been on fire all year, especially early in the night. He’s won heat races, and he won the first of the three 450cc Main Events at last weekend’s Triple Crown event in Atlanta, but he had yet to pull down a win in the last race of the night until tonight in Daytona.

Brayton won his heat race again, then started second in the main event behind Honda’s Christian Craig. He passed Craig quickly, then had to deal with Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin, while Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac went down and remounted dead last. Points leader Jason Anderson also got off to a poor start in the main, mid-pack with a crash a few laps in.

Musquin was on the move early and fought his way by Brayton in the early laps, only to immediately relinquish the lead back to Brayton when he whiskey-throttled off an obstacle and went careening off the track, crashing hard near the mechanics’ area. Musquin was up quickly, in fourth, then fell again in a turn and dropped back to ninth, and Tomac went around him when he was on the ground that second time.

Tomac continued forward while Monster Energy/Knich Yamaha’s Cooper Webb worked his way up through the top five to land himself in second with a handful of laps remaining after he passed Craig for the spot. But Tomac was on a tear and went by Webb not long after Webb got the second spot.

Tomac then went after Brayton, and at first it seemed as if he’d have a chance to chase the Honda rider down, but Brayton held steady out front and scored the first main-event win of his career just in front of Tomac and Webb. Next came Craig, then Musquin, AutoTrader/JGR Suzuki’s Weston Peick, and Anderson.

Despite his lackluster night, Anderson managed to only lose two points to Musquin at Daytona, and now leads the championship by an even 40 points with seven rounds left to run.
