2018 Tampa 450cc Supercross Results: Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac has now won more 450cc main events than anybody else so far in 2018, but still sits seventh in the points. At the Tampa Supercross, Tomac again qualified first – for the second week in a row – and then had to fight his way through the top part of the field to take the lead and the win.

For the third week in a row, the man in second in the points standings was forced out of the series with an injury. Three weeks ago, it was Honda’s Ken Roczen who destroyed his hand when it went into Cooper Webb’s rear wheel in San Diego. Last week, it was Monster Energy/Knich Yamaha’s Justin Barcia, whose hand was landed on when he failed to jump a triple. And then in Tampa, it was Honda’s Cole Seely who went down big jumping a quad in a rhythm section, with the bike tagging him on the inside of the right thigh when he hit the ground. The latest word from Honda is that Seely suffered tailbone and pelvis fractures in the crash and will undergo surgery tonight in Florida.

In the main event, Monster Energy/Knich Yamaha’s Webb grabbed the early lead, but was soon passed by Tomac and Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin. Musquin then found his way past Tomac, as did AutoTrader/JGR Suzuki’s Justin Hill in his 450cc debut. Hill then went after Musquin, but Musquin held him high on a berm and caused Hill to crash out of the second spot.

Husqvarna privateer Chad Reed made his record-setting 228th main event in Tampa, but dropped out of the main when his Husky was cutting out on a couple jump faces. After over 10 laps chasing Musquin, Tomac made a pass stick for the lead and led the final 11 laps of the 26-lap race to take his fourth win of the year in front of Musquin and points leader Jason Anderson (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna), who managed to fight his way up to third before the halfway point of the race. Behind Anderson came Webb, Musquin’s teammate Broc Tickle, Hill, his teammate Malcolm Stewart, Anderson’s teammate Dean Wilson, Motoconcepts Honda’s Justin Brayton, Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM’s Blake Baggett, and Brayton’s teammate Vince Friese.

Remarkably, Musquin now finds himself second in points, 39 points behind former training partner Anderson. Tomac is another 26 points behind Musquin in seventh as the series heads to the second Triple Crown event of the series, in Atlanta next Saturday night.
