Doubletake Adventure Mirror Popular at the KTM Adventure Rider Rally.
The 2017 KTM Adventure Rider Rally was held in Crested Butte, Colorado for the second time in three years. With nearly 500 attendees including a massive staff of KTM event planners, celebrity riders, world-class racers and helpful technicians, it was a popular destination, to say the least. On top of that, nearly 30 vendors from the Adventure Motorcycling industry showcased their latest adventure-motorcycle gear and services.
We had a quick chat with Ned Suesse from Adventure Mirror (Doubletake Mirror) inside their booth at the KTM Adventure Rider Rally to see why they made the trip, what kind of cool new stuff they have and what they think the KTM Adventure Rider Rally is all about.
What product in your booth is drawing the most interest from the attendees here at the KTM Rally?
Ned Suesse: Our products are all mirrors designed for real riders. So, people who are coming to our booth are typically people who take their bike off the beaten path and have maybe dropped it from time-to-time and broken a stock or other rigid mirror. They quickly realize the benefit of having a mirror that will give way instead of failing.
Our most popular product here is probably the Doubletake Adventure Mirror. It’s a product designed for adventure bikes like KTM 990, 1090 or 1290 and 690’s—the larger bikes in the segment.
The mirror is designed around DOT-spec glass which is a 40-inch radius of curvature and the width of the mirror means you have a pretty wide angle of view where you can see both immediately behind the bike and also out into the sides and blind spots.
The biggest benefit of the mirror is that it will fold in if you hit it, rather than breaking. We use the RAM arm as the stalk of the mirror—the same system you see for GPS mounting and whatnot. If the mirror is hit it can move on the pivots on the top and bottom of the stalk. You can also fold the mirror down out of the way simply and take it off very easily.
A lot of our customers on 690s just fold the mirrors out of the way when they load them up in their van and it rolls right in.
Why should riders consider attending the KTM Adventure Rider Rally?
Ned Suesse: I think the best part about a rally like this is the camaraderie and the atmosphere. Honestly, you could show up and ride these roads and trails on your own and you don’t really need a guide, probably, to find a good route. But I don’t think this event is really what that’s about. It’s really about all the people that are here and getting to cross paths with other like-minded individuals and see how other people have set their bikes up and seeing what they’re up to. It’s about catching up with people you only see once a year at an event like this who you know, appreciate and you probably wouldn’t see otherwise.CN
