Press Release | September 11, 2017
Assen, Holland bursts into celebration! Cairoli and Sidi are legends in World Motocross
This is a press release from Motonation…
September 11, 2017 – Antonio Cairoli came to Assen for the Holland GP, the second-to-last round in the MXGP 2017 Championship series, knowing that the 9th World title of his brilliant career was well within his reach. In fact, the Sicilian ace needed a mere 17th place in race one to be mathematically certain to capture the title. However, a champion like him could obviously never be satisfied with a 17th place.
True to form, Tony Cairoli (KTM Red Bull Factory Racing Team) wanted to do great things. So in Assen, it was a race from the very start, with the crowds getting fired up in race one as they witnessed the fantastic duel between Cairoli and the man who has been his closest rival in this thrilling season, Holland’s very own Jeffrey Herlings. At the end of race one, it was Herlings who won the race (going on to win the GP), but Tony Cairoli crossed the finish line right behind him in second place… And then the celebrations broke out, with Tony Cairoli’s sheer joy and that of his staff for the feat of this amazing ninth title.
Sidi has always supported the Sicilian star, so of course they joined in the festivities. In all of his greatest victories, Cairoli has always been able to count on Sidi. And this season was no different. In this fantastic season Tony was wearing his Sidi Crossfire 3 SRS boots, which have now become the number one motocross boots in the world, the boots of World Champions.
After two difficult and unlucky seasons, Tony Cairoli has reclaimed his place on the top step of the World MXGP podium. For him this is MX World Title number 9. It’s an amazing achievement that has inducted him into the motocross Hall of Fame. But we are sure that Tony will not want to stop here. Now his sights are set on equaling, and perhaps surpassing, the record of 10 titles won by Stefan Everts, another legend in the history of the Sidi team. For his part Tony Cairoli wants to become the greatest ever… along with Sidi, of course.
