In this week’s Throwback, we wind back the clock 30 years to 1987. In this shot Jimmy Adamo (center) celebrates his AMA Pro Twins National win at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, over runner up Russ Paulk (white leathers) and third-place finisher John Long.
Adamo was easily the most dominant rider in the history of the AMA Battle of the Twins class, which was later renamed Pro Twins and ultimately SuperTwins. Adamo won a remarkable 31 BOTT Nationals during his career (a series record), as well as two series championships.
In this race at Mid-Ohio Adamo raced a Leoni Ducati, while Paulk rode a Ferracci Ducati. Long was on his own Longevity Racing Ducati.
Sadly, we later lost Adamo and Paulk in racing accidents (Paulk in 1988 and Adamo in 1993), but both left an indelible mark on the sport.
