2017 AMA MX Finale Update: With the finale of the 2017 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships in Indiana just two days away, things are getting a little interesting. First, there’s the exit of Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Martin Davalos, who turned a lot of heads this summer in his 450cc MX debut, grabbing multiple podium finishes and leading laps in the premier class. He finished third in moto one at Budds Creek last weekend, but crashed out of moto two with a knee injury.
The team says he got his knee checked out and the doctor recommended he not put any weight on it as a precaution, so Davalos might have raced his last race for the team, as there are rumors aligning him back with the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki team in 2018. He won’t be lining up in Indiana.

However, the points battle still leaves both Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM’s Blake Baggett (28 points back) and Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin (30 points back) in mathematical contention for the 2017 AMA 450cc National Championship this weekend. But they’re going to need a lot of help.
Enter Red Bull KTM GP star Jeffrey Herlings. With the US GP the following weekend in Florida, Herlings is “in town” so to speak and is going to race the 450cc class at Ironman Raceway this weekend.
We all should remember the team orders that weren’t team orders at the penultimate supercross of the season, so pay attention, because it’s possible there will be more shenanigans.
But Tomac won’t be out there alone. Although teammate Josh Grant has missed quite a few weeks after arthroscopic knee surgery in mid-July, but according to his social media, he’ll be back on the track this weekend to help Tomac out, if needed.
The shenanigans can come from any direction on Saturday…
