2017 Millville 450 MX Results: The Red Bull KTM team had an eventful weekend in Millville, Minnesota. First, local Minnesota boy (and legendary motocross and supercross racer) Ryan Dungey was on hand to hang out with the fans after a much-needed vacation following his retirement from racing in May, and then the team’s Trey Canard announced his own retirement from racing prior to the start of action. But the biggest news for the team at Millville was the performance of their remaining 450cc racer Marvin Musquin, who went 1-1 for the first time in a 450cc National to take the overall win.
Musquin got the holeshot in moto one over Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Dean Wilson, and then Wilson nearly lost the front end in the second turn, allowing RCH Suzuki’s fill-in rider Matt Bisceglia to take over second place. Bisceglia stayed near the front for a few laps and ended up 10th, but didn’t start moto two.

Wilson took second back over not long after that, and Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac – the current points leader – found himself battling it out near the tail end of the top 10 with his closest championship rival Blake Baggett (Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM) and Monster Energy/Yamalube/Chaparral Yamaha’s Cooper Webb.
Out front, Musquin was on a ripper, and pulled out to a 3-second lead over Wilson on the first lap. Later in the moto, Tomac caught and passed Wilson for second, and then Auto Trader/JGR/Toyota Suzuki’s Justin Barcia went by Wilson for third, only to give the spot back in the last lap or two.
At the finish, it was Musquin with tons of time to spare over Tomac, Wilson, Webb, Barcia, Baggett, the Honda duo of Christian Craig and Cole Seely, Triggr Racing Yamaha privateer Henry Miller with a fantastic ride in 9th, and then Bisceglia just holding off Wilson’s teammate Martin Davalos.

In moto two, privateer Henry Miller got the holeshot, then threw it away spectacularly in the second turn in front of the entire field, taking Barcia’s teammate Weston Peick down with him, but remarkably no one else. RCH Suzuki’s Justin Bogle took over the lead over Wilson, Tomac, Baggett and Musquin, and then Tomac fought his way into second, only to throw it away in a rutted downhill right before the end of the first official lap. He got up 9th, but fell back to 14th as he went down again trying to adjust his clutch perch later on lap two.
Musquin quickly worked his way through the top few guys to take the lead and then took off to win the moto over Baggett, Wilson, Davalos and then Tomac, who fought his way all the way back up to fifth by passing Seely in the final couple laps. Seely, Craig, Barcia, Webb, and Honda privateer Freddy Noren rounded out the top 10. Henry Miller somehow managed to work his way back up to 14th at the finish to go 9-14 for 12th overall on the day.

Musquin took the overall win over Wilson and Tomac, and Baggett (4th overall) lost one point to Tomac on the day despite Tomac’s troubles. He now trails Tomac by 20 points in the championship as the series heads to Washougal, Washington, next Saturday.
