2017 Glen Helen 450 MX Results: With how things went at Hangtown a week ago, most people expected Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac to be the man to beat at Glen Helen – although there were likely a lot of people who thought Tomac’s teammate Josh Grant would be able to pull off a win at his home track.
However, in the end, it turned into a pretty dismal day for both of the Kawasaki pilots, and the entire podium ended up dominated by KTMs and Husqvarnas.

Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin took the lead to start moto one, over the Honda factory duo of Cole Seely and Christian Craig. They were soon joined by Grant, who fought his way by both Hondas over the course of the next few laps, and then Tomac joined the fight. Tomac started well outside the top 10 and passed his way by Seely at about the halfway point, then did likewise a few laps later with Craig.
Tomac ended up getting by teammate Grant with two laps to go when Grant had a technical problem and began dropping back. Musquin took the win over Tomac, Grant, Craig, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Jason Anderson and Dean Wilson, Seely, and Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM’s Blake Baggett.

Craig got the holeshot to start moto two, and he had Baggett all over him right from the start. Anderson soon joined them out front, and the pair fought their way by Craig, who eventually went down and broke his hand. The crash handed third to Musquin.

On the opening lap, Grant went down while running near the front, and his teammate Tomac ended up with a front-brake malfunction in the same corner where Grant fell. Grant spilled gasoline in his fall and had to go into the mechanics’ area to get a refill, and Tomac had to stop in the same area to have his front-brake line cut so he could finish the moto. Grant ended up dropping out of the moto with an undisclosed technical problem late in the race, and Tomac ended up collecting two valuable championship points in 19th.
Anderson ended up getting by Baggett and then pulling away to take his first-ever 450cc MX moto victory over Baggett and Musquin. Then came RCH Suzuki’s Broc Tickle in fourth, his teammate Justin Bogle in fifth, JGR Suzuki’s Weston Peick in sixth, then Wilson, Seely, Martin Davalos and Justin Barcia.
Musquin took the overall victory – the first of his 450cc career – with his 1-3 score over the 5-1 of Anderson and the 8-2 of Baggett. Musquin now leads the championship by 15 points over Tomac with 20 motos still left to run.
