Which news or bike test made the Top 10 Cycle News Stories of 2016? It is an interesting mix with the new Harley Davidson engine platform taking the top spot. Two multi bike shootouts made the top five along with some Supercross racing news. Below is the top 10:
Top 10 Cycle News Stories of 2016
- The introduction of the new Harley Davidson Milwaukee Eight engine platform. This was the ninth engine the history of the Motor company so it made big news.
- An archives story by Larry Lawrence with his take on the Harley and the Davidsons Discovery Channel miniseries attracted a lot of feedback on Social Media. Lawrenece pointed out the inaccuracies in the story that was otherwise very entertaining for most of the people that watched it.
- The Cycle News 2017 450 Motocross shootout rounded out the top three stories. Whether you are looking for a new bike or not, we all want to know how the latest 450 MX bikes stack up and with a new Honda for 2017, this was an interesting year.
- At the very beginning of the year, Jason Anderson put in an amazing ride at the opening round of Supercross to take his first career win and Husqvarna’s first ever premier class win. He backed it up with just one more win for the season. Something to remember when we watch A1 this coming weekend.
- Also from the 2016 Anaheim 1 Supercross, James Stewart returned to racing after serving over a year suspension and was involved in a collision with Ryan Dungey that effectively ended his season. He tried to come back several times but lingering injuries always got in the way of a successful comeback.
- The Cycle News Big Bore Adventure bike Shootout was a very popular story in 2016. We compared the Honda Africa Twin, KTM 1190 Adventure R, BMW GS Adventure and Ducati Multistrada Enduro. The results were a little surprising to many people.
- Cycle News Road Test Editor Rennie Scaysbrook got invited to participate in a desert race with the Honda Africa Twin. It was a great test of the new bike and showcased the off road capabilities.
- Among the sad news from 2016 was the passing of Michael Czysz. He was a visionary motorcycle designer that produced some amazing bikes that had great success on the track and challenged typical thinking.
- A 2015 test of the KTM 390 Duke continued to get a lot of interest in 2016 and took the number nine spot.
- The results for the 2016 Motocross of Nations rounded out the top 10. It was another close loss for the American’s and the third straight win for the French team. Jason Anderson’s condition after getting landed on at the finish was also just outside the top ten stories of 2016.
