Loretta Lynn’s Amateur Motocross Up And Running
| August 3, 2016
The 35th Annual Rocky Mountain ATV/MC National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch got off to a late start after thunderstorms delayed the first day start by four hours. This marked the first time the Amateur National was delayed from the start of the event. Seasoned riders always expect rain to delay the races during the week but this was the first time the racing action had to wait four hours for the rain to subside and the track crew time to fix the track.
Loretta Lynn’s 2016
With rain Monday late afternoon and then early Tuesday morning the track was a mudder for the first few races and those who trained for wet conditions made it to the front in the early motos. Ryan Surratt easily won the first race of the day, the College (16-24), by a large margin.
The former pro Austin Stroupe impressed the crowd with his mud skills in the Junior 25+ class, as Austin took the lead on lap one and never looked back. The track progressively started to dry as the day went on and the MX Sports track crew did an excellent job of bringing the track back into shape.
The 85 (9-11) Limited class seen some confusion on who the winner was. Nicholas Romano led most of the race until he had a google issue a little past the halfway point of the 20-minute moto and dropped back a couple positions.
Jet Reynolds took the checkered flag and thought he was the winner but the flagger missed giving the flag to Jordon Biese, who had to do an extra lap.
Factory Connection Amateur rider Chase Sexton, who will be making his pro debut next week at Unadilla, won the Open Pro Sport class.
Fifteen motos were completed at the end of the day and the 50cc bikes were able to get their practices in as they lost their time on the track to the rain Monday night.
