Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez took an emphatic 10th U.S. MotoGP race victory at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX, today, heading home World Champion Jorge Lorenzo and Andrea Iannone.
The race was a chaotic affair with crashes from Valentino Rossi, Bradley Smith, Cal Crutchlow, Loris Baz and a nasty incident involving Dani Pedrosa and the unfortunate Andrea Dovizioso, who was scuttled by the Spaniard’s stricken Repsol Honda. It was the second time in two races Dovizioso has been taken down but he thankfully emerged unscathed.
For Marquez, the result was almost never in doubt after he took the lead in turn one and fended off early challenges from Dovizioso and Lorenzo and cleared off for a dominant 6.107 second victory. Behind the leading trio, Maverick Vinales got the better of a Team Ecstar Suzuki battle to finish fourth with teammate Aliex Espargaro in fifth with Scott Redding, Pol Espargaro, Pramac Ducati stand-in rider Michele Pirro, Hector Barbera and Stefan Bradl rounding out the top 10.
The win sees Marquez increase his championship lead over Lorenzo to 21 points, 66 to 41 with Rossi dropping back in third on 33.
