Ken Roczen Dominates at Foxboro Supercross

It looks like Ryan Dungey will have to wait another week to clinch the 2016 Monster Energy Supercross title. A win would have earned him the championship at round 15 of the series, but Ken Roczen was hell bent on stealing Dungey’s thunder in Foxboro, Massachussets. The RCH Soaring Eagle Suzuki rider did just that by taking a commanding win on the challenging track at Gillette Stadium, leaving Dungey to finish a very distant third behind Eli Tomac.
Ken Roczen was nothing short of spectacular in Foxboro, running down Dungey to take the lead in both their heat race and the main event, taking convincing wins each time. Rain early in the day left the track a sloppy mess during practice but as the sun broke through and the track dried out, a mix of slippery hardpack and soft rutted turns on the technical course made for a very challenging afternoon. As with most of the field, Dungey’s efforts were hampered by small mistakes and bobbles, but Ken Roczen was masterful en route to his fourth win of the season.
Not to be overshadowed was Eli Tomac, who also gapped Dungey on the rough and technical track to ride a flawless race. Tomac couldn’t quite reel in Ken Roczen, but put his Monster Energy Kawasaki on the podium in an impressive runner-up finish.
At one point, Dungey was in danger of breaking his podium streak when Jason Anderson muscled his way around him for third. But Dungey regained the point when Anderson bobbled in the whoop section and then missed a triple.
“They all can’t go your way,” Ryan Dungey said from the podium at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. “Ken and Eli were going good tonight. They were hanging it out and I had nothing for them.
“Tonight we knew there was a possibility for the championship but we lost a little bit but it’s okay. We’ll rebound and get back to it.”
