Grant Baylor Wins National Enduro Series Opener
| February 8, 2016
Grant Baylor came out swinging at the Sumter National Enduro in Wedgefield, South Carolina, February 7. It was the opening round of the Kenda AMA Enduro National Championship and Baylor got the jump on the pack in this year’s title chase.
Baylor, of the N-Fab/AmPro/Yamaha bLU cRU Off-Road Team, duked out with four-time enduro champ Russell Bobbitt, of the FMF/KTM squad, and when all was said and done, Baylor edged out Bobbitt by 18 seconds.
Beta rider Jesse Groemm was also in the hunt but finished out the day third.
Baylor’s brother, Steward (SRT Off-Road KTM), finished fourth, while Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Andrew DeLong rounded out the top five overall.
JCR Honda’s Chris Bach finished sixth and Husky rider Josh Strang finished seventh.
FMF/KTM’s Charlie Mullins made his enduro debut since injuring both his wrist early in the season last year. Unfortunately for him, he suffered a broken foot while training just a few weeks before the national opener which put a damper on his ride. Amazingly, the former champ topped the first of six test and coasted home to an eighth-place finish, which certainly keeps him in the title.
Cory Buttrick (KTM) and Drew Higgins (KTM) completed the top 10 overall.
