Three In A Row For Rookie Romain Febvre

Three in a row for the rookie Romain Febvre.

Once again it was Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube’s Romain Febvre who came out on top at the MXGP of Germany at Teutschenthal, scoring a 1-2 tally to take his third grand pix win in a row.

The weekend also marked a big shake-up in the FIM World Motocross Championship as both red plate holders—Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Nagl and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings—ended up sidelined with injury, Nagl with a broken Fibula and Herlings with a broken collarbone. With Nagl absent, Febvre’s win also secured the rookie the red plate.

Behind Febvre was Team HRC’s Gautier Paulin (3-1) who was looking back in true form, earning his third race win of the season and a second podium performance.

Joining the pair on the podium was Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Kevin Strijbos (5-3), an impressive result for the Belgian who’s missed half the season due to a wrist and thumb injury.

As there were three riders tied at 36 points (Strijbos, Evgeny Bobryshev and Jeremy van Horebeek), Strijbos third-place overall finish was determined by his third-place finish in race two, the best of the three riders. Yamaha Factory Racing Yamalube’s Jeremy Van Horebeek was fourth with a pair of fourth-place finishes while Paulin’s teammate Bobryshev was pushed back to fifth ( 2-7).

Dean Ferris was sixth (7-5) ahead of Brit Shaun Simpson (6-9). Rookie Christophe Charlier on the 24MX Honda Racing was eighth with a 10-8 tally.

As for the defending champ Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli (14-6) was ninth overall, dropping back to third in the championship behind Nagl. Rounding out the top 10 was Glen Coldenhoff (9-12).

In the MX2 class it was Honda Gariboldi’s Tim Gajser who took home top honors with a win in the first moto and a second-place finish in moto two. Like Febvre, Gasjer is also carrying momentum with his third-straight grand prix win, moving up into second in the championship standings, 100 points shy of the injured Herlings.

Monster Energy DRT Kawasaki’s Max Anstie (8-1) landed his first podium this season in second with what was also his first race win of the year in the final moto.

Standing Construct Yamaha Yamalube’s Valentin Guillod bounced back after a couple rough grands prix to finish third, scoring second in moto one and fifth in moto two.

Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Jordi Tixier was fourth with a 3-6 tally. Rounding out the top five was Standing Construct Yamaha Yamalube’s Julien Lieber (5-4).

The championship leader, Herlings clipped his handle bar on the top of a jump while throwing a massive scrub out of turn one he suffered a broken collarbone and is already on the operating table to have it plated. Like Herlings Wilvo Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Aleksandr Tonkov also had a big get off today and went to hospital with a suspected broken collar-bone or shoulder.
