AUSTIN, TX, APRIL 12 – Monster Energy Graves Yamaha’s Cameron Beaubier held off teammate Josh Hayes in Superbike race two to earn his first win of the new MotoAmerica FIM/AMA North American Road Racing Championship at the Circuit of the Americas.

Although the forecast looked grim, the weather held off and today’s combined Superbike/Superstock 1000 race was in the dry and this time around the competition was heated.

Rookie Jake Lewis on the other Yoshimura Suzuki got the holeshot with Hayden and the Graves Yamaha teammates in tow. Hayes got into the lead, but wasn’t going to put on a disappearing act this time as Hayden was there to challenge. The pair took turns in the lead, but ultimately Hayes would take it. After having a few moments due to a front tire issue, Hayden lost the position to Beaubier, and then to Superstock rider Jake Gagne on the Road Race Factory Yamaha.

The battle then came down to Hayes and Beaubier, with Beaubier taking the lead and holding it across the line despite Hayes last ditch effort in the final corner. Ultimately Hayden was able to get back in front of Gagne to join Beaubier and Hayes on the podium.

Hayden’s teammate Lewis had a much better day in the dry, finishing fourth in Superbike. Rounding out the top five in the Superbike class was KTM’s Chris Fillmore, who also had a much better Sunday after yesterday’s technical issue.

Rookie Jake Gagne pulled off the double in the Superstock class at CoTA.

Although Gagne wasn’t able to get the much desired third overall, he repeated yesterday’s performance with a fourth overall and the Superstock 1000 win. Joining Gagne on the podium for the Superstock 1000 class was Aprilia HSBK Racing’s Dustin Dominguez and Taylor Knapp on a privateer Yamaha. In fourth was Yamalube Westby Racing’s Geoff May ahead of Dominguez’ teammate Devin McDonough.
