Precision Concepts rider Robby Bell made it three in a row with another win at round 3 of the WORCS championship.

Robby Bell took the WORCS Pro win at Canyon MX after charging into the early lead and pulling away to take the checkers. It was the third-consecutive win of the season for the Precision Concepts rider. Blayne Thompson and Travis Coy both earned their debut podium finishes in the Pro class.

With a wet weekend in the forecast, some racers were missing from the lineup, but the besides a few sprinkles and brief showers, the weather was ideal. Reigning champion Gary Sutherlin was noticeably absent, but not due to the weather… Sutherlin sidelined himself last weekend with a broken wrist, suffered at a National Hare and Hound race.

The Canyon MX course was a good mix of motocross and technical off-road with a few single-track sections added in. The rocks, cactus and whoops took their toll on many of the racers, with several big wrecks on the weekend, including even Robby Bell.

Destry Abbott was one of the first to fall victim to the course. Abbott, who was contesting his first WORCS race in years, jumped out to an early lead in the race, but soon clipped a rock and went down hard. The impact actually split his tire open and sent him cartwheeling.

“It was ugly, but I’m okay. Just really sore,” Abbott said. “I honestly felt like I had a great shot at the win, so I’m pretty bummed.”

Justin Jones was charging hard in the second spot when he went down hard enough to have his boot ripped off his foot, but he was able to continue the race, and went on to finish fourth.

Ivan Ramirez also had a serious wreck and immediately was taken to the hospital, but was reportedly okay and released that evening. Eric Yorba was soon sidelined, as well, after a tip-over in the rocks left him with a substantial pipe burn and multiple dislocated fingers.
