For Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey, the Washougal round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series could not have gone much better. Dungey, who came into the Washougal race trailing teammate Ken Roczen by 24 points in the series, won both motos with Roczen finishing third both times out. Dungey took a big bite, 10 points, out of Roczen’s championship lead and with just three rounds remaining—Unadilla (New York), Indiana and Utah—left on the 2014 schedule and with 150 points still left on the table, the race for the number-one plate is far from decided.

The two 450cc motos were pretty similar. Both times out, Toyota/JGRMX/Yamaha’s Justin Brayton snatched the holeshot, but Dungey found his way by before the end of the first lap and went on to lead every lap of both motos.

Behind Dungey in moto one, Eli Tomac, on the GEICO Honda, came from behind to pass Roczen for second with about five laps left to run. In the second moto, Tomac sat second for most of the race, but couldn’t cut into Dungey’s lead.

Both times out, the results read: Dungey (1-1), Tomac (2-2) and Roczen (3-3). It was Dungey sixth career win at Washougal, two coming in the 250 class and four in the 450 class.

Fourth overall went to Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Brett Metcalfe who ran a solid race in both 450 motos. He went 5-4 on the day taking advantage of great starts in each time out.

Rounding out the top five overall was BTO Sports/KTM’s Andrew Short with 6-5 placings.

Weston Peick (Soaring Eagle/RCH Suzuki), Trey Canard (Honda Muscle Milk), Fredrik Noren (Honda Muscle Milk), Justin Brayton and Christian Craig (TLD/Lucas Oil/Honda) completed the top 10 overall.

Canard was in contention for a podium after finishing fourth in the first moto, but a crash early in the second moto had him working his way up through the pack to finish 11th.

After finishing 11th in the first moto, Discount Tire/TwoTwo Motorsport Kawasaki’s pulled out of the second moto with a sore back while running well within the top 10. He’s been struggling with a sore back for a while.
