EnduroCross Heads to Atlanta

Press Release | July 11, 2014

First trip to Atlanta and first visit to the East Coast since 2009

The GEICO AMA EnduroCross Championship is heading to Atlanta and the East Coast of the U.S for the first time since 2009! EnduroCross’ high-paced action and wild obstacles expect to attract a large crowd and a host of new riders from the south.  The Gwinnett Center will host the EnduroCross regulars and local racers on Saturday, August 23rd.

“We are really excited to bring EnduroCross to the East Coast again” said Mike Karsting, VP of events for TEN, the producers of the EnduroCross Championship. “The timing also falls during the summer break for the GNCC and National Enduro series so we hope to attract some East Coast riders looking to get some racing in.”

Beta USA, GEICO backed Cody Webb holds a single point lead in the championship heading into Atlanta. Webb took the win at the opening round in Las Vegas and has raced consistently to hold a narrow lead. KTM’s Taddy Blazusiak won the Austin X Games event and is currently second in the points while Rockstar, Lucas Oil-backed Colton Haaker took the most recent win in Sacramento on his JCR Honda to close to within three points of Webb. The racing action is tight!

Taylor Robert, Mike Brown, Cory Graffunder, Kyle Redmond, Geoff Aaron, Max Gerston, Destry Abbott and Gary Sutherlin will be among the top riders looking for a top finish as well. And don’t forget about the Women’s Championship. Seventeen-year-old Morgan Tanke took the points lead with a win in Sacramento and leads defending champion Chantelle Bykerk from Canada. The Women’s class is getting deeper in talent all the time.

Not a pro and think you can tame the EnduroCross obstacles? Then come on out and compete in the Open Amateur, Vet 35+ or TrialsCross classes. EnduroCross veteran Destry Abbott will host a “Rookies” training session on Friday night before the event to provide one hour of track time and tips for riders that have never raced an EnduroCross. Don’t miss it!

The Lucas Oil Productions team will again be producing one-hour shows for the eight AMA EnduroCross events that will air on MAVtv. The Sacramento event will air on Saturday July 26th at 11:00 am EST and re-air at 2:00 PM EST.  Check out www.MAVtv.com for more information.
