Supercross: James Stewart Fails WADA Drug Test

Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart failed a drug test that was administered by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) at the Seattle Supercross on April 12, according to a release issued this afternoon by Yoshimura.
According to the Yoshimura, Stewart said the medication in question was prescribed to him by his physician to treat a long-term condition. The release does not say what Stewart tested positive for and at this point there is no mention of the positive result on the WADA website. Stewart finished second in the Seattle Supercross – which was sanctioned by both the AMA and the FIM – to Ryan Villopoto.
The release says that, “Stewart, with the with the full support of Yoshimura Suzuki Racing, is willingly communicating with WADA and taking all appropriate steps to resolve this matter and plans to be at the starting gate at the Tennessee National in Blountville, Tennessee, on June 28, for the next round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.”
Neither the AMA nor the FIM has released a statement on the situation. No fines or penalties have yet been levied, or at least announced.
Stewart finished fourth overall in the 2014 Monster Energy Supercross Series and is currently third in the AMA National Championship Motocross Series after taking the overall last weekend in the High Point round of the series in Pennsylvania.
